History

Nucor Tubular has brought together three great organizations. In October 2016, Nucor Corporation bought Independence Tube.  Shortly after, Nucor purchased Southland Tube and Republic Conduit. The Nucor Tubular Products Group was taking shape.

Together, these companies bring nearly 85 years of experience to Nucor, with expertise in manufacturing high quality HSS, piling, A53 pipe, mechanical tubing, fire protection sprinkler pipe, and electrical steel conduit.

Independence Tube was founded in in 1972 in a 53,000-square-foot facility on the southwest side of Chicago with three employees. Based on a strong commitment to customer service and quality, the company grew to four locations, five mills and 335 employees by 2016.

Southland Tube was founded in 1987 in Birmingham, Alabama for the purpose of serving a regional customer base with ASTM A513 mechanical tubing. Southland’s team grew from a handful of employees to a family of over 260 employees over the decade prior to joining the Nucor family of companies.

Republic Conduit has manufactured the nation’s premier steel electrical conduit since its founding in Brooklyn, NY in 1929. Before joining the NTP family, Republic Conduit had established manufacturing facilities in Louisville, Kentucky and Cedar Springs, Georgia, with 300 teammates operating five welding and three galvanizing lines to produce Electrical Metal Tubing (EMT), Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC), and hot-dip galvanized Electrical Rigid Metal Conduit (ERMC or Rigid) in a full range of trade sizes.

In 2018, NTP added a new product line and started producing automotive mechanical tubing.
